It is with deepest sorrow and extremely heavy hearts we share our beloved John left us on June 21, 2022, to go home to the Lord. We lost our rock who filled our lives with love and happiness.
John is survived by his loving wife, Nancy, son Jack, daughters Juli Smith and Jill (Dean) Coffin and grandchildren Madeline Coffin and Jacob Smith.
John lived life to the fullest. He was a wonderful man, loved by many and had a heart larger than life. He had the power of conversation to truly connect with anyone he encountered, befriended, or loved.
Born and raised in Elgin, Illinois, John developed a passion for automobiles and boats, while working with his father, who owned a gas station and marine store. John then moved to St. Louis after graduating from SIU Carbondale, to pursue teaching high school business education. However, his entrepreneurial spirit led him to embrace his true passion, and as a result, he owned a gas station, auto/truck repair shop (Pfister’s Truck and Automotive) and tire stores (American Tire) for over 30 years. He semi-retired but was always looking for another opportunity and later owned a UPS Store in Warson Woods for 10 years.
He had a love for drag racing his many AMC hot rods, boating on the Mississippi River and driving his golf cart through the neighborhood to make sure all was good on “watch”. His favorite pastimes included napping with his “Boys” – Honey Bee and Jack Bee and cheering for Harrison Bader of the St. Louis Cardinals. John helped anyone in need and grew especially close to a homeless man who he checked on daily, providing snacks, water and an occasional $5 bill.
A celebration of life will be planned for some time in September. Information will be forthcoming in the next few weeks.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations, in John’s honor (Paul John Pfister), to those organizations serving our community’s homeless and less fortunate (Loaves & Fishes, St Patrick’s Center and Peter and Paul Community Services) as well as animal rescue (Five Acres Animal Shelter, Humane Society and APA).
Taken too soon
